A Truly Amazing Acne Treatment

Like many other people, I struggle with adult acne.   I've tried many over the counter remedies, including Pro-Active, with limited success.  The ironic thing is that I didn't suffer from acne as a teenager.  My acne seemed to be triggered by pregnancy.

Feeling frustrated by lack of results and not wanting to resort to prescription medications, I went on a mad search last year for a natural cure.

In my research, I found that Turmeric is widely used in other parts of the world medicinally and as a beauty treatment.  Turmeric is used for acne because of its antiseptic and antibacterial properties that fight pimples and breakouts. It removes redness from acne and other types of scarring, reduces inflammation and evens out skin discolorations.

Turmeric also appears to have cancer-fighting properties as well!

I decided to apply Turmeric topically to the affected areas and take it internally.  You can purchase Turmeric for topical use in the spice section of your grocery store.  Supplements are sold for internal use, however, I found it less expensive to purchase empty gelatin capsules at my local health food store and fill them with Turmeric from the spice jar.

1) I use turmeric found in the spice section of
my grocery store.

2) It only takes about 2 to 3 tsp each treatment

3) Add equal parts water to ground turmeric

4) Mix well until consistency of prepared mustard

5) Apply to the affected area and leave on
for at least 20 minutes.  I prefer to leave
on overnight.
Using Turmeric is simple -

I would caution you that this will stain your skin and your bedsheets yellow.  I use an old pillowcase that I can bleach on the nights I apply turmeric topically.  In the morning, the staining on my skin is easy enough to remove with hydrogen peroxide.

For me, the turmeric worked an overnight miracle.  (Read here to see what I did to get rid of the acne scarring.) The deep cystic acne was brought to the surface, swelling virtually gone.  The hard center of the pimples were very easy to remove with little pressure.  (Yes, I know you're not supposed to pick at acne, but the center literally jumped out for me with ever so slight pressure around the pimple).   After some time, I found I could stop using turmeric topically and just continue to take supplements orally.

I believe this treatment is probably not widely used simply because it's messy and stains whatever it comes into contact with.  However, for those who are desperate to control or cure their acne, that messiness may seem a small price to pay.

I would encourage anyone who struggles with acne to give this natural remedy a try!

Bell Bottomed Jeans

I've been down with the flu for over a week now and was beginning to get a little stir crazy.  I decided a little altering might make me feel better so this is what I did with my Saturday afternoon.

Big Things Start Small Tee Shirt
Big Things Start Small Tee Shirt by Poppyjuice
Design your own custom shirts online at Zazzle

1) I took an old pair of jeans and replaced the pockets with
some from another old pair.  I never liked the way the pockets
on this pair looked...too small.

2) I then made slits from the ankle to the knee on both sides
of the pant leg.  For my leg this was about 15 inches.

3) From another old pair of jeans I took rectangular pieces
15 inches in height with a base of approximately 6 inches.
I pinned right sides together and stitched in place.

4) After stitching triangles into place, I turned right side out
and pressed with my iron.  Impressive flare!

My husband said I need to iron these a
little better to get the right look but I'd say
my first stab at bell bottoms was a success!

Groovy Baby!

Review: The Face Shop Blackhead EX Charcoal Pore Strip

Mood:

The Face Shop Blackhead EX Charcoal Pore Strip
Do you know how effective this product is in removing whiteheads & blackheads? It's super sticky which helps to stick and pull out all those gunk! The amount of gunk being pulled out on the strip was u-n-b-e-l-i-v-a-b-l-e! I am TOTALLY AMAZED by it.

I have been using Biore Pore Strip ever since I was in middle school and to be honest, Biore Pore Strip doesn't do much in removing those stubborn whiteheads and blackheads stuck on my nose. Maybe yes, it does works but it only pulled out just a few gunk. I have quite A LOT of blackheads and whiteheads on my nose and Biore Pore Strip is not really effective for me.

While I was searching for another blackheads "killer", I happened to see The Face Shop Blackhead EX Charcoal Pore Strip on sales(22% discount)~ and since it was on sales, I grabbed it~ It's cheap yea yea~~ got it at the price of $3.90 for a box of 7 sheets. Kind of regret buying only one box. Should have grabbed more... :X This is an awesome stuff!~ Far more effective than Biore Pore Strip. I swear. >:)

Heyyyy, I'm not bragging...This product is seriously amazing. Here's the prooooooof~:
A lot of gunk being pulled out.
Can't see it clearly?(.__.) It's okay, I can zoom-in~~~

Eww, disgusting gunk from the tip of my nose area. :x

After using it, it leaves my nose feeling clean and smoother. Decided to buy more boxes however the sales is overrrrr......... :( Well, I shall wait for another sales...

Likes:
- easy to use
- contains charcoal
- extreme sticky
- works amazingly!
- leaves my nose feeling clean and smoother

Dislikes:
- leaves a red patch after peeling it off but it will slowly fade off after some time...

Effectiveness: 5/5
Repurchase?: YES, OF COURSE. why not? such an awesome product...~~~ :3

2012 FEBRUARY HAUL

Mood:

I haven't send my mac for repair... (x.x) but I have the urge to update my blog so I digged out my old window laptop(which I didn't touch it for months) and am currently using it to make my blog alive~ Well, it's uber lag especially if it comes to animation/flash program or website. It will hang. arghhh... that's the reason why I didn't use it anymore. LOL~

Anyway, HAUL HAUL HAUL! FEBRUARY HAUL!~
I have been investing on Korean Skin Care products for the past few months and I can't seem to stop buying them~ I am sold to the packaging and effectiveness of the products. :P

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam
Etude House Be Clear Moisturizer
Etude House Missing U, Bee Happy Hand Cream
Etude House Pure Joy Restorative Cream

Once again, I helped my brother to get Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam. He stays in the hostel during weekdays and comes home to stay only on the weekends. He doesn't want to bring the cleansing foam around, from hostel to home and from home to hostel. So he wants to get another tube. It is a good cleanser but I won't rave about it since I have already did a review on this.

The reason why I bought the Be Clear Moisturizer was because of the SPF. It contains SPF 30 PA++ and has a whitening effect. Great product for the day time. ;D

As for the Pure Joy Restorative Cream, it has a 7-free formula --- Void of Paraben, Benzophenone, Ethanol, Synthetic Perfumes, Synthetic Dyes, Mineral Oils and Genetically Modified ingredients and is a cream for sensitive skin. My friend introduced this to me when I told her the area of my chin and jawline are prone to dryness and quite sensitive to strong ingredients. She has sensitive skin and this works great for her so I bought this to try it out but I have yet to use it since I am quite satisfied with my current daily skin care products. I would only use this when my skin felt dry and itchy.

Missing U, Bee Happy hand cream~ Yes, I bought the hand cream again. I bought the 'Honey Bee' and 'LadyBug' hand cream in December 2011 as Christmas gifts. I personally like all the four designs that Etude House have for this line but when it comes to fragrance, I like the 'Honey Bee' and 'Queen Bee' most. Initially, I want to get both the 'Honey Bee' & 'Queen Bee' for myself however 'Honey Bee' ran out of stock so I only bought the 'Queen Bee'. I use this almost every single night before heading to bed. It absorbs easily and leaves hands feeling moisturized without feeling greasy. I love the design however I dislike dipping my fingers into the pot to get the cream. It's quite unhygienic... Whenever I want to use it, I make sure that I washed my hands before dipping my fingers into the pot...

I have been using the Etude House AC Clinic Acne Foam Cleanser and Pink Powder Spot + extreme for more than a month now. I am satisfied with the products so I decided to try some other products in this line. I actually wanted to get the Innisfree Volcanic Pore Toner but after some thoughts, I decided to put that toner in the wishlist and try the AC one first.

I tried the AC Clinic toner once and it dries out my skin! I have said that some areas of my face are prone to dryness and are sensitive. I didn't know that this toner contains ALCOHOL which probably the reason why my skin became dry after using it. Anyway, I stopped using it already and probably will sell this away to my friend if she's interested.

I have yet to try the AC Clinic Gel Lotion because it contains ALCOHOL too. (-.-)

Got the AC Clinic Red Spot Balm + whitening kit and I am happy that it comes with a small version AC Clinic Pink Daily Spot(5 ml). I have been wanting to try this too. I believe it is the morning version of Pink Powder Spot + extreme. Pink Powder Spot + extreme is a night spot treatment while Pink Daily Spot is both Day & Night spot treatment and I think Pink Daily Spot is not as strong as Pink Powder Spot.

So..., AC Clinic Red Spot Balm... I have used up the small jar(5 ml) of Red Spot Balm which comes with the Pink Powder Spot + extreme kit. It does helps to lighten the redness of the post-acne marks but it's just lighten..., not fade totally. Well, I only have used up a mini jar(5 ml) so I can't really judge and give the exact rate of effectiveness. Since I have seen some results using the mini jar so, I bought the full version. Hopefully it does helps to totally get rid of hyperpigmentation marks. Will update more about this in the future.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner description on the box: This product is a total solution for pore care, preventing enlarged pores, less firmer skin and skin troubles by eliminating what hurts skin health from within.

This is a toner and it can also be used as a facial mist. You can pour it into a spray bottle and use it when there is too much sebum or you have an itchy feeling. Yes, it's a TWO-WAY product! What I loved about is the 7-in-1 Total Pore Solution. I use this as a toner at night and this contains alcohol too. Unlike the AC Clinic toner, this does not dries up my skin. It is definitely more moisturizing than drying~ :)

The best part of this product is the PUMP DISPENSER!
It's so convenient and easy to use with the pump dispenser~~~ Just get a cotton pad, place it on the pump dispenser and press 1-3 pumps. and...TA-DAHHHH~! You can swipe the cotton pad on your face without having to fuss with pouring the toner out on the cotton pad. This bottle can lasts for really long I believe... it's 500ml! <3

The Face Shop Black Head EX Charcoal Pore Strip comes in a box of 7 sheets. I used it last night and I must say..., this is 100% way MORE EFFECTIVE than the Biore Pore Strip! Awesome product! Will write a review about this soon.

Besides Skin Care Products, I bought nail polish too~
Essie's Cute As A Button & China Glaze's Matte Magic Top Coat.

I'm done with my February Haul! (^^)
Coming up next: Review on some products.

Another Upcycled T-Shirt!

Finished spaghetti strap tank!

I had so much fun altering some of my clothing several days ago that I wanted to try it again!

This creation was made with an old t-shirt that belonged to my teenage son and a crocheted halter top that I never felt completely comfortable wearing.

Old T-Shirt
I cut these sections off of the shirt
I pinned approximately 1 inch seams on both the front
and back of the new neckline and stitched.
The sides were left open to allow
string to be threaded through.
I used the bottom strips cut from
the t-shirt to thread through
neckline.
Strips cut from the crocheted halter
top were pinned and sewn to the
bottom of the t-shirt.

Finished spaghetti strap tank!
It was so easy to make.  I
think it would be a super
way to make sundresses for
little girls!
I can't take credit for this idea, only the details.  I found this idea on Crafter Hours .
Check out their tutorial for better instructions than mine.

Thanks Crafter Hours!

Upcycled Clothing!

I've been in a shopping mood lately.  It doesn't happen often but once in a while I feel a strong urge to buy some new clothes.   I normally talk myself out of the shopping trip to avoid spending a ton of money.

Because I've been blessed with hand-me-down clothing from friends and my mama through the years, I rarely "need" anything in the clothing department.  Sometimes I just want something different.   To satisfy the shopping urge, I decided to look through my own closet to see what pieces could be recycled into a "new" item.  These are a few items I altered into new pieces.

1)I love the fabric but hate the
way the shirt fits.  I feel
like I look like a clown in this shirt.

2) I unattached the sleeves,
 hemmed around the
arm holes and took in the sides
by 1 inch each to take some
of the bulkiness out of this
blouse.  Now I feel good wearing it!

Next project  1) I cut an ordinary
t-shirt up the middle of the front.
I then cut the neck band off.

2) Then I pressed a 1 inch seam up
the front both sides and around
the neck.  I stitched, leaving both ends open to
allow me to thread a string.

3) Voila!  After threading a ribbon through the seam and cinching it up,
I now have a really cute little jacket!
I'll probably change the ribbon color but other than that, I'm thrilled with the idea!
Thanks, Cut Out and Keep for the great idea!

And a white blouse that I love but have
stopped wearing due to a tear
in the left shoulder
made a great pairing with an old t-shirt.

1) I turned the t-shirt into a strapless tube
style top by cutting off the t-shirt from
the armpits and above.
2)To prevent the tube from falling down,
I ran elastic through the seam
above the bust.
3) I then stitched the bottom
part of the white blouse
under the waist hem of the t-shirt.

4) I took the salvaged ties from
the white blouse and
strung old buttons that
were my grandmothers.
In this photo I have the belt
up under my
bust.

In this photo I'm wearing the
belt at my waist.

This garment is long enough I
could probably wear it as a summer
dress!
I had so much fun tapping into my creative side yesterday!  Now I have a whole stack of garments I'd like to put my own touch on!  If you've got basic sewing skills, you can have fun making your own clothing creations!  I'm not a great seamstress and I found this very easy and fun.
